Man stuck in window for 5 HOURS

Burglary is an awful crime but, occasionally, when thwarted, can turn into a story that’s bizarre, funny or a display of courage. You’ll be able to find all three types of story below:

Man found agonizingly stuck in window

When two students heard someone crying and shouting from one of their university buildings, they probably weren’t expecting to find a man stuck in a window. They were probably less expecting for him to be later charged with suspected burglary in what, if proven, could be one of the most inept attempts ever.

The students found the man suspended eight feet from the ground, and apparently performing a handstand. After filming and laughing at the scene, they called 999 and waited for the police to arrive. Two fire engines and three police cars arrived and, according to student Tom Burdett, the police apparently “found it hilarious and a few of them took photos”. (Metro)

It took a saw and, according to Mr Barnett (Metro), the removal of the window for the man to be freed. His freedom, though, was short lived, as he was taken away in handcuffs and into police custody.

Pensioners fight back

Some burglars might not be inept, but they underestimate the courage of ordinary people. In the past week two stories have been reported of elderly individuals who have stood up to burglars despite the potential risks.

A Liverpudlian pensioner woke to find his bedroom being raided by a burglar – a burglar in possession of a ten-inch knife and eleven different burglary convictions. The unknowing pensioner decided to tackle him to the ground.

It was whilst tackling the criminal that Mr Clague found himself attacked with the knife. However, his son rushed into the bedroom and, together, they were able to successfully pin the burglar down whilst Mr Clague’s daughter called the police.

Further South in Birmingham, an 80-year old successfully fended off a burglar armed with a hammer. The burglar entered the property on a Wednesday morning, but found himself confronted by the woman. Her husband left his bedroom to see what was happening but, shortly afterwards, the woman pushed the burglar down the stairs. The burglar then fled the property.

Despite the successful actions of the individuals, it can of course be risky to tackle a burglar.  Mr Clague, who didn’t come to any major harm from his ordeal, said that he was informed by a policeman that “they never recommend that anyone tackles a burglar who is armed.”

The residents of the properties are said to be shaken by the experiences, though nothing more, with Mr Clague’s wound having been attended to with three stitches. A police hunt is now underway to find the Birmingham burglar, and the Liverpudlian burglar has returned to prison.
