Leaving Your Keys Inside Your Lock
Do you tend to leave your keys in the lock on the inside of the door? Youre not the only one.
Leaving your keys in the lock may come with some benefits, you always know where your keys are and it can make it easier to keep your doors locked while youre in and keep others out at night. However, you need to be careful when leaving your keys inside the lock to avoid getting locked out.
If your door uses a lock that locks automatically on the latch and requires the use of a key instead of just the handle to pull back the latch and open the door and you have left your keys inside, then you will not be able to insert your keys fully on the outside to get yourself back in should the door slam shut.

It can happen to anyone, especially when your thoughts are focused on other things, such as getting supplies or taking the bins out at night. It only takes a gust of wind to blow your door closed and youll be locked out. My advice is to not leave your keys inside of the key hole. This will cause spare keys to not work and if your keys are left inside of your door a burglar could potentially smash a front door window pane and let themselves in using your key.
If there is no glass in your door or if you have reinforced glass, there is the option of installing a thumb turn cylinder in your door on the inside. This would allow ease of locking the door from the inside without preventing keys from being used from the outside. These are especially useful if you want to child proof your doors as some come with a useful child proof push in and turn feature.
