Door chains are simple yet effective tools, allowing you to speak to strangers at the door without fear of intrusion.

Despite the simplicity of the door chain, it has seen recent development in the form of the two-year old Secure-Ring. The device combines a traditional chain and a door restrictor, and can be used on UPVC and composite doors. It’s a worthwhile purchase for those who may find it difficult to operate a traditional chain.

Door Viewers

Door viewers need little explanation, as most people are familiar with the traditional ‘spyhole’. The device gives you a greater level of control over access to your home by allowing you to see who is on the other side of your front door before opening it.

However, there are actually three main forms of non-digital door viewer, which each have their own variants.

• Traditional Viewer – Allows the user to see who is on the other side of the door by putting their eye to the viewer.
• Prism Viewer – Can allow the user to view from a distance of seven metres, providing greater safety. Suitable for those with poorer eyesight.
• Secure Vision Pane – This is a rarer form of viewer which has a sliding pane of glass bookended by panes of glass. The use of a handle allows the user to move the middle pane and see the visitor.
